Feeding Guidelines - Transitioning Your Dog To a High-quality Diet
Dogs With Food Allergies
Any dog can develop allergies; usually after 6 months of age but with many dogs having issues after the age of 2 years. But allergic reactions seem to be especially common in retrievers and flat-faced breeds such as pugs, bulldogs and Boston terriers.
The most common symptoms of allergies:
- Constant scratching even when fleas are not present
- Excessive Licking or chewing of paws or body
- Red or pink discoloration between the toes or on the top of paws
- Excessive rubbing of face or body against objects or floor
- Red or pink rash, bumps, pimples on belly or where fur or hair is thinner
- Goopy, watery or redness of eyes
- Chronic ear infections
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea
If you have an older dog with allergies, a
doggie detox may be in order to set his or her system up for a successful transition to a healthier life. See our recommendation for a canine detox diet –
